School Unit
The Dairy School - Viçosa Products, plays an important role in the fulfillment of UFV's academic activities, serving as a laboratory for teaching, research, extension and innovation, thus collaborating with student development and learning. The Dairy School provides opportunities for students to experience academic content in practice, thus enabling them to acquire knowledge and attitudes related to their chosen profession.
In this way, the Laticínio Escola has become a benchmark in Brazil and abroad, proving that it is possible to combine knowledge and industrial production with the correct application of resources to generate more revenue for academic benefit, as well as producing innovative technology and fostering market development.
- 1500 students served per year with practical classes, internships and the development of academic work
- 50 educational institutions served per year from various locations in Brazil
- 40 internships offered per year to students from different academic backgrounds
The Dairy School offers an average of 40 internships per year to students regularly enrolled in the subjects/areas of interest. There are approximately 17 interns per semester, and the most commonly sought-after areas are: Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering and Chemical Engineering. From time to time, we also offer internships to students on the Administration course. Whenever new trainees start at the dairy, we hold a round of talks, where there is a relaxed chat between the Manager and the new students, with the aim of welcoming and getting to know each trainee better, finding out their purposes and how they can add to our company.
During 2018 and 2019, we had trainee Antônio Marcos with us, who did extremely important work for the Laticínio Escola, especially for our Effluent Treatment Plant - ETE.
“Thinking about the environment is thinking about the future. It was in this spirit that I developed a project with the Laticínio Escola that aimed to reduce water consumption at the plant by between 50 and 80% by adapting and reusing the effluent treated at the ETE for secondary processes, such as use in boilers and cooling towers. It was a sensational experience that brought me personal and professional growth. I'm very grateful to Laticínio Escola for the opportunity, freedom and support.” (Antônio Marcos).
The Laticínio Escola welcomes the children, who have loved Viçosa products ever since they were little.
In September, we supported the national “Yellow September” campaign. To show that we were really in the mood, we made a special invitation to our employees: “Shall we stop everything we're doing and slow down for a moment?”. And so it happened! We put on the “Desacelera” event, which took place in the auditorium of the Laticínio Escola, in favor of mental health and the care we should take to lead a healthier life.
